Fishing catch and release? Please note following guidelines:

1. Use a wet knotless, soft fabric shallow net, if possible, to avoid fish damage.

2. Try to keep the fish in the net in the water when extracting hook.

3. If a fish has to be handled, do so with wet hands to avoid harm to the fishes protective film. If it struggles turn it upside down as this usually calms the fish.

4. After removal of the hook support the fish in the net and ensure recovery before releasing it unharmed.

5. The use of barbless hooks is preferred or use a hook release tool to aid unhooking of fish.

6. Consider playing fish a little quicker so they are not “played out” and therefore recover quicker and are livelier when released.

7. Please treat fish with respect and if fishing catch and release avoid the use of “Boobies”or methods likely to result in deep hooking inside of fish.
